July's birthstone is ruby.
Ruby is a stunning pink red gemstone of the corundum family which also contains sapphires. Rubies and sapphires have a hardness of 9 which is only surpassed by diamonds. Many of the words rubies come from South East Asia with a very large number coming from mines in the Mokog region of Burma. But they are also found in Australia, Japan, South America and even Scotland.
